Even though Taken 3 was a pretty crummy movie, it’s always fun to watch Liam Neeson beat the crap out of some bad guys.
(But don’t you wonder if the criminal community will ever figure out that they shouldn’t mess with his family? Seriously – pass the word around to leave the guy alone and you’ll probably live a lot longer.)
Mid-way through the movie, Liam finds himself handcuffed in the back of a police cruiser. It’s mighty hard to wreak havoc when you’re handcuffed, so our hero needs to escape. And escape he does – inside of 15 seconds, he’s worked himself free of the cuffs and starts making the cops regret they ever arrested him.
While we’d never encourage escaping from police custody, freeing yourself from handcuffs is a handy skill to have. (Bad guys can use handcuffs just as easily as the good guys.)

This video explains how to use a bobby pin to free yourself from cuffs. While most effective when your hands are cuffed in front of you, with practice you can also use this technique when cuffed from behind.
This next video is excellent – it explains multiple escape methods, including using a shim, just like Liam did in the movie.
